Reports To: HOO (Head of Operations)
Clearing and Forwarding Operation manager play a vital role in the movement of goods from one place to another. They act as essential go-betweens in the import/export process and provide assistance to individuals, commercial organisations, importers and exporters who need help facilitating their international trading operations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor or record locations of goods in transit.
- Negotiate shipping rates with freight carriers.
- Obtain or arrange cargo insurance.
- Pay or arrange for payment of freight or insurance fees or other charges.
- Prepare invoices or cost quotations for freight transportation.
- Recommend or arrange appropriate merchandise packing methods, according to climate, terrain, weight, nature of goods, or costs.
- Verify proper packaging and labeling of exported goods.
- Verify adherence of documentation to customs, insurance, or regulatory requirements.
- Clear goods through customs, arranging for applicable duties and taxes.
- Complete customs paperwork.
- Make arrangements with customs brokers to facilitate the passage of goods through customs.
- Analyze shipping routes to determine how to minimize environmental impact.
- Consider environmental sustainability factors when determining merchandise packing methods.
- Calculate weight, volume, or cost of goods to be moved
- Determine efficient and cost-effective methods of moving goods from one location to another.
- Transportation of goods to docks and arrangement of warehousing at port.
- Warehousing facilities before the goods are transported to docks.
- Arrangement for loading of goods on board.
- Equipped with information on shipping lines and freight to different destinations, and various charges payable by exporters.
- Preparation and processing of shipping documents, Bills of Lading, Dock Receipt,
- Forwarding of banking collection papers.
- Ensuring that purchased goods are delivered to the respective buyers.
- Handles documentation related to the shipments, including insurance forms and dispatch forms.
- Ensures that the shipment is compliant with the hazardous shipping compliance information.
- Keeps track of routing information. It is a clearing agent's duty to verify that the carrier he uses is properly licensed.
- Develops logistics which he uses to track changes and ensure delivery of goods.
- Give their clearing agents powers of attorney.
- Orders containers which will be used for packaging cargo to be delivered to the right locations and research freight rates.
Experience And Qualifications
- A BSc /BA/MSc in Social Science and Transport
- Minimum of (6) six years’ experience in clearing and forwarding,
- Certificate in International Trade and Logistics Operations
- Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport
- Should have good background and knowledge of all aspects of fleet operation, and clearing and forwarding operation as well as shipment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with numerous schedules and customers in order to meet client demands.
- Highly adaptable to change and the ability to function in a fast paced environment.
- Must be motivated and ready to accept day to day challenges and work in a versatile environment.
