Movement Cooperation Specialist - National Society Development AT British Red Cross

The British Red Cross is currently looking for a highly motivated and experienced Movement Cooperation Specialist - National Society Development (NSD) delegate to join the ICRC delegation in Abuja. The successful candidate will be working with the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) and ICRC, as well as several other Movement components in Nigeria.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organisation, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.



What you will be doing...
Reporting to the ICRC Cooperation Coordinator, the Movement Cooperation Specialist (NSD) will promote a Movement coordinated approach to the development of NRCS' development initiatives. The delegate will be responsible for ensuring that progression in development activities is in line with ICRC's movement policies, the National Society Development Framework and NRCS's Strategic Plan. Highlighting developments and trends that may affect Movement partners. 



Main duties and responsibilities include:
- Leading on the Movement support to the National Society Organisational Development, include the design and implementation of activities in line with the agreed NCRS Roadmap.
- Provide and coordinate technical support including mobilising support from Movement partners, where appropriate.
- National Society Development Grant Management - Lead the ICRC Abuja Delegation Cooperation Department's monitoring of ICRC-funded NRCS National Society Development work, including support for the implementation of the NRCS Organisational Development Road Map. 
- External Coordination, Cooperation and Representation. Participate in established coordination fora. Identify and support continued and further partnership opportunities
- Identify, disseminate and promote the application of learning from ICRC NS Development support

What we are looking for...

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level with an excellent command of English. Have the ability to oversee several ICRC-funded projects/areas of work with a high level of internal autonomy and be available to deputise for the Cooperation Coordinator when required. 

They will be experienced in relationship building & relationship management with the ability to work closely with management teams at HQ level throughout the Movement and relevant management at NRCS branch level and interacts with NRCS governance as relevant / required.

Must be willing to travel frequently within Nigeria, working with the NRCS HQ and selected branches.



Closing date for applications is 23:59 on the 8th July with 1st round interviews scheduled to take place on 23rd & 25th July and 2nd round to take place on 30th/31st July.




ICRC field constraints

- In line with the principle of neutrality, the ICRC does not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals
- Candidates must be in good health and will have to do a medical check-up prior to departure in the field
- Candidates must possess a driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles) with regular practice
- Candidates must be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependants) for the first two missions (preferably 12 months each) or total of 24 months
