Main Purpose of Job

  • To provide transport services (using armoured vehicles) for Border Force staff and visitors to and from assigned destinations within Lagos in a safe, efficient and courteous manner observing all road traffic rules and post security regulations. Perform administrative duties as may be required to support the effective running of the BF Lagos office and transport operations in the Nigeria Network.

Roles and Responsibilities 
Transport/Operational Services - 70%:

  • Manage transport booking requests from Border Force operational staff and communicate effectively with Border Force management and other stakeholders.
  • Drive Border Force staff and visitors to operational locations within mainland Lagos.
  • Drive BF staff to meetings and functions within mainland Lagos and surrounding areas when necessary.
  • Conduct Airport runs to pick up/drop off Border Force staff and visitors. Liaise with Airport officials as necessary.
  • Undertake journeys to other locations within Nigeria if and when necessary
  • Perform duties in line with post security regulations
  • Complete accurate journey record sheets for all journeys in official vehicles
Vehicle Maintenance and Management - 20%:
  • Keep accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption and maintenance work/costs
  • Perform daily inspections to ensure that all official vehicles are road worthy and in good working order.
  • Wash/Clean official vehicles ensuring they are kept tidy and parked in a secured area.
  • Complete vehicle inspection checklists and promptly report any defects, faults or incidents that occur to the Border Force transport manager
  • Check that all vehicle equipment and tools are secured safely and are functioning correctly.
  • Manage a working stock of spares (held in BF stores with restricted access) for the fleet based in Lagos in line with FCO/BHC policy.
Administrative Support - 10%:
  • Provide administrative support for the day to day running of the Lagos office (transport requirements)
  • Maintain adequate records for all the operations of the BF Lagos transport unit. Required for audit purposes e.g. Journey records, Stores, Vehicle maintenance check lists, Fuel Consumption, etc

Requirements
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Minimum of Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent;
  • A valid “Class E” Nigerian Drivers Licence;
  • A good knowledge of the 2012 Lagos State Road Traffic Law;
  • Relevant driving experience of not less than five years;
  • Previous or current experience of driving for the British High Commission, National Crime Agency or Border Force within Nigeria.
  • Good command of written and spoken English;
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Defensive driving training
  • A good knowledge of Lagos metropolis will be an advantage
Required competencies:

Starting Monthly Salary
N234,003.

Other Benefits and Conditions of Employment

  • This is a 6 month temporary contract (rolling) from start date. Working hours will be conditioned hours as directed by the Border Force operational team.
  • Working patterns: Core working hours are 40 hours per week (5 days per week)
  • Drivers must work shifts rather than standard office hours. The nature of the job will require flexible working patterns. There is a requirement to work on a rotational basis sometimes in the evening and on weekends. Overtime will be paid for additional hours worked.
