Job description


Based in the British Red Cross office in Nairobi, the post of Country Manager for Kenya, Somalia and Djibouti is responsible for strategic direction, management and delivery of British Red Cross support to National Societies in the assigned countries - providing funds and technical support for organisational capacity building, disaster management (incorporating preparedness, response and recovery), and longer-term resilience work.



Overall purpose of the post
  • To deliver country plans in line with agreed overall strategy for the International Directorate and the regional strategy, ensuring an integrated approach to National Society capacity development, disaster management, community resilience, and other British Red Cross supported activities.
  • To serve as a British Red Cross representative for the assigned countries for internal and external parties.
  • To manage and coordinate the delivery of all British Red Cross support to the National Society, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent and/or the International Committee of the Red Cross in the assigned countries.
  • To support the development of the capacity of the National Societies in line with their own strategic direction to respond to emergencies and to build resilience in vulnerable communities, ensuring the appropriate deployment of resources and technical advice.

Location:  Nairobi-based, with routine travel to assigned countries
Salary: Grade 7, Salary from £39,013 per annum
