This position will be filled at multiple levels: Heating & Refrigeration Mechanic I($17.11-$21.29) or Heating & Refrigeration Mechanic II ($19.36-$24.59)
Minimum Qualifications For The Heating & Refrigeration Mechanic I

High School graduation or GED, plus two years experience in building maintenance or repair which included HVAC, plumbing or electrical work; One year of relevant work experience may substitute for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years; Completion of approved course of training in air conditioning and refrigeration systems may substitute for one year of the required experience.
DRIVER’S LICENSE
This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and individual will be required to drive on the AOA. Successful candidate must be in possession of a Texas driver’s license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code. A driving record verification will be conducted. Applicants for positions for which City driving is an essential funstion must meet the standards of the program: age 18 or older, current applicable driver’s license, proof of insurability, and no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) based on the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Driver Record Report. ASSESSMENT
A computerized Heating & Refrigeration skills assessment will be required for this position.
OVERTIME
Overtime may be required with or without notice.
VETERAN
Veteran candidates will be required to provide a copy of their DD214 at the time of interview.

This position is categorized as Essential Personnel, who are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work, and in some cases even when they are not scheduled.
CHBC

Physical Requirements
Frequent/continuous walking and standing up to up to 6 – 8 hrs. per day; Occasional sitting to do administrative / computer work; Frequent squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, and stepping up; Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods of time, being exposed to high heat temperatures (including sun rays), and cold temperatures; Ability to use hand and fingers to grasp, pull, twist and hold and/or reach above shoulder level; Frequent kneeling and crawling; Continuous lifting/carrying items from 1 – 50 lbs; Occasional lifting/carrying items from 71 – 100 lbs. + (with assistance); Continuous pulling or pushing or items from 1 – 50 lbs; Frequent pulling or pushing of items weighing from 21 – 50 lbs; Occasional pulling or pushing of items weighing from 51 – 100 lbs. + (with assistance); Occasional work in confined spaces; Exposure to high level/ aircraft noise (using PPE); Ability to turn head from side to side and twist neck up and down; Must possess the physical and mental capacity to safely operate a motor vehicle during day or night time.

Duties, Functions And Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, ice machines, and other equipment.
  • Assists with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing and performing start-up of building automation system network devices and components.
  • Installs heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation equipment and systems.
  • Calibrates and services thermostats.
  • Performs basic service on HVAC equipment including pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, and other mechanical systems.
  • Reads and interprets profiles and blue prints.
  • Maintains appropriate records.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of tools, materials and methods used in maintenance and repair of ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning.
Knowledge of applicable building codes.
Skill in presenting and following oral and written instructions.
Skill in reading plans and specifications and in laying out work.
Skill in performing emergency and routine repairs and maintenance as required.
Skill in estimating time, materials and costs.
Skill in performing heavy manual work.
Skill in tracing and analyzing causes of HVAC troubles and in making repairs.
Skill in conducting routine inspections for the purpose of determining conformity to ASHRAE, building code and safety standards.
Skill in organizing and prioritizing work.
Skill in using tools, equipment and materials common to the trade.
Ability to develop innovations to solve technical problems.
Ability to acquire, through training and on-the-job experience, specialized knowledge in rapidly changing technology and applications.
