Job Description
TRC Companies, Inc., a pioneer in groundbreaking scientific and engineering developments since the 1960s, is a national engineering consulting and construction management firm that provides integrated services to the energy, environmental and infrastructure markets. TRC serves a broad range of clients in government and industry, implementing complex projects from initial concept to delivery and operation.

The Sr. GIS Consultant’s responsibility is to develop, scope, design and price projects by directly interfacing with clients and internal project management teams. This position requires very good communication and technical writing skills as well as the ability to understand many different types of projects. The project scopes tend to vary widely and the position requires flexibility and a deep understanding of the pipeline GIS and technical industry. Additionally, this position will require direct interfaces with the GIS Consulting and Project teams to ensure proper execution of any given project. Often, Sr. GIS Consultants are asked to participate in industry committees as well as writing white papers and giving presentations at industry conferences.
Project deliverables can vary greatly and often include data deliverables, document deliverables, technical process design and implementations, physical system implementations and ongoing product/process support. The Sr. GIS Consultant will be required to produce and/or oversee production of all of these aspects of a project.
The Sr. GIS Consultant may be required to give professional presentations at industry conferences and meetings.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Consulting Responsibilities
  • Consult with Business Development and Management teams in project development. Including:
  • Meeting with client management and technical teams
  • Writing proposals and estimates
  • Assisting with creating and giving presentations to clients
  • Providing and developing technical procedures for project execution
  • Conduct technical workshops (data modeling, migration/conversion etc)
Responsible for the day-to-day technical coordination for GIS projects including but not limited to:
    • Interface with client for technical project requirements
    • Implement systems and processes on client site
    • Document technical practices required for project needs.
    • Oversee GIS project team for one or multiple projects
    • Manage and maintain project status and progress
    • Communicate issues to project and technical management teams
    • Quality control for GIS project data
    • Review project proposals, technical documents as needed
    • Completes other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geographic Information or Business Management or equivalent relevant technical experience.
Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, Or Other Requirements
None.
Professional Experience
Skills – Technical/Application:
    • 10 years ArcGIS/GIS experience with emphasis in geoprocessing tasks
    • 5-10 years experience managing and designing pipeline GIS projects
    • Languages: xml, VP, Python, HTML, SQL
    • ESRI software suite - ArcSDE, ArcGIS etc
    • Ability to learn and understand 3rd party pipeline applications required for client implementations.
    • Proficiency in use of Excel, MS Access and other Microsoft Office products.
    • Able to lead others in varied and complex tasks.
    • Ability to demonstrate initiative and assertiveness, the ability to plan and manage work in an efficient manner, and the ability to work well under stress and time pressures.
Skills – Communication
    • Ability to speak clearly in a way that is easy to understand.
    • Ability to write clearly, using appropriate grammar and punctuation.
    • Ability to explain “why” and “how” to do something within a broader organizational focus.
    • Ability to design, perform and/or oversee tasks required for pipeline GIS projects
    • Ability to communicate and train GIS staff on technical requirements for a given GIS project
    • Technical writing
      • Ability to write and lead the development of effective technical reports.
      • Ability to write clearly, using appropriate grammar and punctuation.
      • Familiarity to write documents such as database dictionary, logical diagrams, business processes and proposal documents
      • Review and provide feedback for technical documentation, proposals or business plans
