The International Rescue
Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian agencies, provides
relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict reconstruction support to
victims of natural disaster, oppression and violent conflict in 42
countries. The IRC is committed to bold leadership, innovation and

rights, IRC assists people from harm to home.IRC entered Nigeria in October 2012 in response to a widespread
flood disaster. Since then, the IRC has expanded its scope and size of
the programs as new areas became accessible after prolonged conflict and
insecurity, in Adamawa and Borno States. The IRC’s response to the
humanitarian situation includes integrated health and nutrition
services, as well as reproductive health care and women protection
services. In 2015 IRC Nigeria developed a five-year long term Strategy
Action Plan. The plan has Health, Education and Economic Wellbeing as
high priority program areas.The IRC is the technical lead on social and emotional
learning (SEL) strand of this project. The 36 week non-formal education
curriculum focuses on literacy, numeracy and SEL and IRC have led on the
development of the SEL scope and sequence and lesson plans, as well
measuring the impact of SEL intervention.A recent ECR model review report outlined recommendations to improve
the SEL component in year three which includes review and development
of SEL lesson plans. The SEL Curriculum Development Manager’s primary
role of position is the creation of 68 SEL lesson plans. This is a
short-term, six week position.The SEL Curriculum Development Specialist will develop 68
SEL lesson plans, with technical support from the Education Technical
Unit’s SEL Specialist. Senior Emergency Program Coordinator with support from Education Technical Unit None CYPD Coordinator and relevant Regional/HQ-basedIRC staff must adhere to the values and principles outlined
in IRC Way – Global Standards for Professional Conduct. These are

Main Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities Include
- Familiarization with the Scope & Sequence to understand the logical sequencing of learning objectives.
- Draft 68 SEL lesson plans to be delivered for review in a series of sets, as agreed with the supervisor
- Ensure all lesson plans are of high technical quality and written in clear, easy to understand language
- Submit lesson plans electronically to SEL Specialist for review
- Incorporate feedback and changes from TU and field teams
- Be available for conference calls on materials development with the TU team as needed
- Submit final package of 68 reviewed lesion plans
- Master’s degree in Education or related field.
- Proven skills in curriculum development, particularly lesson plan development
- Experience working in conflict or crisis affected environments
- At least 2 years of experience managing and/or advising on education programs in conflict or post-conflict contexts.
- Knowledge in social and emotional learning and/or child psychology / child development
- Excellent written communication skills in English
- IRC experience preferred
- Strong commitment to IRC’s mission, purpose and values
