Job Purpose
This is a high profile role that requires commercial and technical gravitas and the credibility to lead complex, multi-disciplined risk consulting projects. The essential qualifications for this role are laid out below.
This role will deliver, project manage and oversee security risk consulting engagements across Africa. The focus of the role will be on delivering and managing complex client consulting tasks from scoping through project initiation, delivery and conclusion. The individual will be responsible for the delivery of a regional strategy that supports business goals through the positioning of the security risk consulting business as the preferred provider of these services in Africa. It will also help drive growth of other Control Risks services in the region.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Consulting
- The consultant will be expected to deliver security and risk consulting tasks, with particular emphasis on application of security management techniques in an African context.
- Across Africa the consultant will lead the delivery of:
- Corporate security and resilience consulting tasks
- Operational security consulting tasks
- Service multiple consultancy assignments concurrently utilising regional resources
- Act as Engagement Manager and lead on assignments when more junior team members are engaged
- Support the development of innovative products and services that address client need, and
Business Development
- Support delivery of competitive business strategies and well-crafted business plans designed to expand the Company’s standing with its clients.
- Consistently develop the company’s positioning with its clients to enhance business development and secure higher fee-earning engagements
- Pro-actively seek opportunities to develop projects and business
- Increase business generated from clients across the practice region
- Ensure that revenue targets are met and/ or exceeded.
Task Delivery
- Delivery of tasks for clients on time, on budget, to the highest standards
- The role will involve significant travel to client sites and Control Risks offices (particularly in Africa)
- The incumbent may also be required to undertake crisis management related activities and wider crisis and security consulting tasks as directed.
Practice Development
- Develop and mentor junior staff, maximise utilisation of resources
- Support performance management and provide specialist training in order to develop practice team.
- Act as regional SME for SRC
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- This is a senior appointment that requires a minimum of 10 years commercial risk consulting experience gained in a top tier consulting firm. You will be recognised as an expert in your field with a formidable theoretical and practical grasp of the fundamentals of risk management
- Demonstrable depth and breadth of understanding of security risk management, business resilience, and the dynamics of a consultancy practice within the sector
- Proven and demonstrable track record of successful security risk and resilience consultancy projects, preferably within Africa, and coupled with an understanding of the requirements for delivering services in a hostile environments
- Extensive and demonstrable experience of operating within a commercial consulting environment
- Proven experience of successfully driving teams to reach the strategic and operational goals
- Commercially astute when planning and pricing project in terms of time, resource and outcomes
- Proven experience of effectively managing a consulting team to perform highly and meet / exceed given targets
- Relevant role of having successfully built effective and strong client relationships, being the preferred partner of choice.
Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential
- Educated to degree level
- Professional qualification in a relevant discipline
- Project management skills within a commercial/consulting environment
- Strong commercial focus (financial management skills, legal and contractual skills) and leadership
- Good client (both internal & external) management and consulting skills
- Effective decision making & judgment
- Assertiveness and drive with strong influencing skills
- People leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and drive the performance of a team of security and risk professionals
- Strong interpersonal skills – building trust & rapport
- Excellent communication skills – written & oral (informal and presentation to board level)
Preferred
- Post graduate qualification in a related area. extensive experience in commercial management within the sector;
- Second language (French or Portuguese preferable)
