Controller at Andela

Reporting directly to Andela's CFO, the Controller of Andela Inc. will manage the company-wide accounting function. The controller would manage all aspects of financial accounting and controls within Adela’s operating subsidiaries in Lagos, Nigera and Nairobi, Kenya, as well as locally in NYC.

Responsibilities:
  • Continue to design, document, implement and manage policies and procedures with respect to revenue recognition, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, month end close and other accounting operations to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting across operating subsidiaries
  • Oversee all accounting activities to include accurate and timely reporting of the Company’s financials in accordance with US GAAP/IRFS standards, regulatory guidelines and company procedures
  • Manage and analyze monthly financial statements and reports to ensure integrity of the financial statements for each operating entity
  • Perform detailed review of monthly financial statements with senior management team
  • Continue to improve, monitor and enforce internal controls, policies and procedures to manage and guide financial decisions and scale the business
  • Manage annual external audit process  
  • Partner with Sales Ops to support deals and partnerships and review and administer sales compensation plans
  • Manage and implement business financial systems (G/L Upgrade, Subscription management software)
  • Act as liaison with FP&A as it relates to budgets and forecasts
  • Recruit, develop, train and mentor a high performing accounting team
  • Make sound recommendations to enhance efficiency of accounting and reporting functions
  • Manage and continuously improve global treasury functions

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting, CPA and Big 4 experience is required
  • 7+ years of related professional experience, including management experience
  • Start-up and/or technology experience
  • Willingness to travel to subsidiaries approximately 4 times a year (most likely quarterly)
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to initiate change and drive improvement in accounting policies and practices, as well as, business processes and procedures
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong leadership/partnership/team building skills and excellent interpersonal, facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work across disciplines to generate new processes and/or resolve issues
  • A self-starter with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
Nice-to-haves:
  • Prior experience in a growth stage venture-funded company
  • Public company, International operations experience is a plus
  • Experience in an ERP systems environment (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce)
